The Murakami Family Foundation Supports “Helen,” a Nursery for Children with Disabilities, and “Nancy,” a Medical Care Sitting Service, Both Operated by Certified NPO Florence

Message from Aya Murakami, Representative Director:
Having experienced pregnancy, childbirth, child-rearing, and the loss of a child through stillbirth, I felt a strong desire to support working mothers, pregnant women, and children. I reached out to Florence, an organization with which I had previous connections, and visited their “Helen Ogikubo” nursery for children with disabilities in Suginami Ward. The visit deeply moved me, especially as I reflected that my stillborn child might have also been born with disabilities.

At the facility, I saw children who needed specialized wheelchairs, those who received nutrition through feeding tubes, and children unable to sit up on their own. Even with both nursery teachers and nurses working together, providing care is challenging. I can only imagine how incredibly difficult it must be for mothers to provide this care alone at home. This experience made me deeply contemplate what I could do to help, and I felt a strong compulsion to support their activities.
