COVID-19 Pandemic Relief Activities

【PCR Test Donations】

In collaboration with Peace Winds Japan, we have launched a crowdfunding campaign to donate PCR tests to artists, arts organizations, athletes, sports organizations, healthcare and welfare workers and facilities, children attending life events (such as graduation ceremonies), and non-profit organizations involved in emergency disaster relief. Prior to the website launch, the Murakami Foundation donated 5,000 PCR tests to those in need, with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra being the first recipient.

【”The University of Tokyo RCAST × Murakami Foundation × PWJ” Launches Yahoo! Fundraising Campaign for Mass COVID-19 Antibody Testing to Create a Safer Society】

The Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST) at the University of Tokyo, led by Professor Emeritus Tatsuhiko Kodama (Cancer and Metabolism Project Leader), has initiated a large-scale COVID-19 antibody testing project. As daily life resumes amid concerns about infection spread following the lifting of the nationwide state of emergency, mass antibody testing aims to improve diagnosis rates and contribute to epidemiological research by analyzing antibody prevalence rates by region. This will provide data for making informed decisions about “appropriately managing fear” of COVID-19 and creating a safe living environment in the with-COVID era. While this initiative represents the first step in medium to long-term research on the still poorly understood COVID-19 virus, securing funding for preventive antibody testing has been challenging as it is not currently covered by social security. Swift assessment of the current situation is crucial in the fight against the virus. This crowdfunding campaign aims to gather private funding to implement societal preventive measures through individual contributions.
